Quay Pharma has been selected by a leading Japanese pharmaceutical company to provide clinical trial drug manufacture of two NCEs. The appointment represents the first time that the Japanese company, which focuses on the development of products to treat diseases in the elderly, has outsourced clinical trials manufacture to a European company.

As part of the implementation of the new projects, Quay has purchased additional manufacturing equipment, including a Quadro Comil cone mill and a bespoke V shell blender, designed specifically to meet the client’s requirements. The new equipment matches what the client had used in Japan in an effort ensure a smooth transfer of the project, as well as flexibility of scale-up for future manufacturing needs.

“We are extremely proud to have been selected for these prestigious projects,” said Quay Pharma’s chief executive officer, Mike Rubinstein. “The Japanese pharmaceutical industry is renowned for its rigorous quality requirements, and our appointment therefore reflects and underlines the extremely high standards that characterize all our work.”
